Nigel Walters, the great friend and supporter of the IFFK “Manaki Brothers” has passed away

Nigel Walters, the great friend and supporter of the “Manaki Brothers” International Cinematographers’ Film Festival, has passed away—a man whose legacy will forever remain etched in the history of world and European cinematography.

Nigel Walters was much more than a name behind the camera. He was a visionary, a bridge between generations, and an ambassador of cinematography as both an art and a profession. As a former president of IMAGO and a distinguished member of the British Society of Cinematographers (BSC), his dedication to the development and recognition of image-makers was boundless.

For our festival, Nigel was a friend, supporter, messenger, and a person with genuine love for the Manaki tradition. His presence in Bitola always brought warmth, wit, and exceptional professional ethics. He deeply believed in the value of the first festival dedicated to cinematographers and often said, “The spirit of Manaki is important for the entire film community.”

With his passing, the cinematography community loses one of the greatest guardians of the visual language, and we lose a sincere friend.

The “Manaki Brothers” IFFK expresses its deep gratitude for his entire contribution and extends heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues from BSC and IMAGO, and all who had the honor of knowing him.

His light remains.

His frame continues to teach us.
