Manaki Brothers

The programmers of the International Cinematographers’ Film Festival “Manaki Brothers” announced the Programme for the upcoming 44th festival edition.

The programmer of the “Camera 300” Official Competition for feature films, Slagjan Penev, revealed an exceptionally diverse and attractive selection. Apart from the screenings of some of the most recent Macedonian films at the festival opening and closing ceremonies, “Housekeeping for Beginners” and “Lena and Vladimir”, from among the films revealed by Penev we can also single out Aki Kaurismäki’s proletarian tragicomedy, FALLEN LEAVES, in tandem with his regular collaborator – cinematographer Timo Salminen who will be among the festival guests; Wim Wenders’ mystical quest for the elusive quintessence of photography and music, PERFECT DAYS, in collaboration with director of photography Franz Lustig who is also coming to Bitola; the meditative Chekhovian/Rohmerian drama by Nuri Bilge Ceylan, ABOUT DRY GRASSES, in his first collaboration with two cinematographers, Cevahir Şahin and Kürşat Üresin, who will also be our festival’s guests as a duo at the screening in Bitola, the Hitchcockian thriller ANATOMY OF A FALL, which won the Palme d’Or at this year’s Film Festival in Cannes, the work of director Justine Triet and cinematographer Simon Beaufils, as well as Wes Anderson’s symphony of an ensemble cast and opulent style, ASTEROID CITY, created with his most frequent collaborator, the veteran cinematographer Robert D. Yeoman.

The programmers of the Short, Documentary and Student Programmes, Marija Apchevska, Kumjana Novakova and Gjorgi Pulevski, also announced their final selections, boasting equally attractive films and authors, such as the documentary MAN IN BLACK by Wang Bing, whose cinematographer Caroline Champetier, known for her collaborations with Leos Carax (HOLY MOTORS), will also be our festival’s guest.
